Sugar Pine Point State Park

Sugar Pine Point offers excellent camping, points of historical interest, and a beautiful beach. The problem is, none of them are near each other. The closest campsites are 1/2 mile from the beach across Highway 89. The beach, though quite beautiful, is a significant walk from the parking lot if you're bringing any gear. The area to the north of the pier is better beach area as ther are less rocks and General Creek flows into the lake which usually keeps the kids occupied. General Creek, which runs through the campground, is one of Tahoe's clearest streams and provides excellent fishing opportunities from mid-July through mid-September.

The area does have a rich history. General William Phipps built the first cabin on the west shore here. He now has a peak, pass, and creek named after him. Isais Hellman built the mansion in 1901, as part of an over 1,000 acre estate. When his daughter married Sidney Ehrman, the mansion took on his name. In 1965, Mr. Hellman's grandaughter sold the estate, including Pine Lodge (Ehrman Mansion) to the State of California.
